Lecture on Papal Encyclical

The Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si, and its implications for Church and Society.

The Association of Catholics of Ireland (ACI) and the Association of Catholic Priests (ACP) are jointly sponsoring a lecture on the Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si. We regard the publication of this document as an event of enormous importance both for the Church and society, and that it is a particular responsibility for members of the Church to promote its message in every way we can.

Correspondence with the Vatican

In February last Mary McAleese wrote directly to Pope Francis on my behalf, suggesting that I had not been treated fairly, and requesting that I be restored to ministry.

Two weeks ago she got the following reply from the Sostituto  in the Secretariat of State, Arch. Becciu saying:

“The Holy Father has received your letter and he has asked me to reply in his name. He appreciates the concerns which prompted you to write to him.

Two big problems facing the Synod on the Family

I believe that next October’s second session of the Synod on the Family will go a good way towards defining Francis’ papacy, either as a time of real reform in the Church, or alternatively a major disappointment for those of us who think that reform is necessary, indeed essential. But it will not be easy to bring any coherent, meaningful changes out of the Synod. There are two areas in particular that will be central to the success or failure of the event.
